As paper bags start to appear in LEGO sets, a second design for the environmentally-friendly option has been spotted in a set due for release in 2023.
Brickset has reported that LEGO Avatar 75579 Payakan the Tulkun & Crabsuit includes a paper bag, to contain some of the build’s larger elements. Notably, this paper bag looks quite different to the first paper bag that’s already been spotted in LEGO Creator 31111 Cyber Drone. Custom Paper Jewelry Box Packaging
As noted by Brickset, these bags are light brown, in comparison to the previous plain white, as shown in the picture above. The material is also thicker, but still easy to open, even without any guidance lines or tabs. It could be that this design will roll out alongside the white ones, with the brown, sturdier ones used for larger (and therefore heavier) parts and the more lightweight, white ones used for smaller parts.
This latest change is in line with the LEGO Group’s goal to completely transition from plastic bags to paper bags by 2025, in all sets and polybags. The timeline has been delayed before, but the most recent plan was for the rollout to begin at the end of 2022. With 75579 Payakan the Tulkun & Crabsuit due for a 2023 release, it seems the deadline has been carried over to the beginning of the year. There have already been various signs that the days of paper bags are fast approaching, but now it seems they are truly around the corner.
